The Madness Of Icarus

A glowing light trapped in the sky of blue

Flew to the moon and back last night. Couldn’t quite reach the sight of you.

It must be a few miles further,

A little more distance between them.

Can’t help but dream of the moment we meet, even if I’m too young to reach you

Too weak to push through the space in between

To see the face not seen from the ground.

The beeswax in between the feathers of my wings

Hold together all the things I need to reach you.

To have in hand the golden strands that you emit is a dream come true,

For I only think of you as I travel through the maze constructed against me.

I have had knees scraped and cheeks scratched

My leg broken as I crushed to the ground,

Trying to move closer to the warmer spaces you occupy.

My father warned me to never fly as high as you though.

But I’ll keep trying until I reach you

Cause I won't sleep without knowing how you got so bright.

My lids won't close until I feel the warmth you bring onto my skin.

This journey might burn me,

But what a story it shall be.
