The Death Divider (Part 1)

From one of the short stories I made on here. (The Price of Magic)

Inspired by MDZS [anime version] and Taming the Tiger by Brothers without a Tomorrow

The names I’ve come up with are not meant to be offensive, and everything in this story is made up with my imagination.

“Sister?” Muttered the toddler, tucked into his cot, linen sheet to his chin. He reached outward, eyes closed, until he found her warm, hand. It was quite comfortable with Moon Yao here.

“Yes, Ran?” She replied, voice soft as she slipped her hand from his grasp to stroke his head.

“Does Father hate me?” Moon Ran mumbled, sleep just around the corner.

“No,” Moon Yao’s fingers stilled, “He really does care Ran.”

Ran shook off Yao’s fingers and tossed off his covers. “Then why doesn’t he visit me? Why doesn’t he let me train like Roen?” His dark eyes were filled with anger, his fists clenched together. “I could do it if he would let me!”

Yao smiled. “But he does care, and that’s why you need to stay in bed and rest. You’re not like Roen, right now, but just wait. I’m sure when you get better he’ll let you sword train too.”

Ran’s face eased up a bit. “Really,” he said as Yao pushed him back down and tucked tightly him once again, “You think so?”

Yao kissed his forehead. He giggled. “I know so. Now go to bed and rest, or you’ll _never_ get better.”

“Mhh-k.” Ran’s eyes fluttered close. He snuggled deeper into his cover and sighed.

Soft snores filled the air moments later. Yao stood to leave, but stopped at the entrance of the room. Yao watched, tears in her eyes, as her brother’s pale, sickly thin figure rose with shakey breaths. Blue veins covered his skin like viens, and against the candle light his translucent skin showed more.

Her sweet brother. Her sweet innocent brother.

_18 years later

Sun Koon, white hair and all, legendary Divider and the youngest one to be so, was here at the Moon Estate, and Moon Ran couldn’t see him?!

“WHAT!” Ran shouted, bolting up in his cot. “He’s here? What do you mean I can’t see him? DID MY _FATHER_ TELL YOU THAT?”

His servants grabbed his arms and struggled putting the flailing limbs of the thin man back underneath his covers.

An adviser of the Moon Clan was watching this. Face down and solemn. “Your father only wishes for you to get better, young lord. I’m sure he is saddened that you will not see the Light Divider.”

“No, he isn’t! He’s probably joking with my twin about how saddened _I_ am!” The servants had his body fully below the covers and were holding the sides. “Where’s Yao? Has she come to visit for the Ascension ceremony for Roen as well as the other Dividers?”

“That is not information I am permitted to tell you,” replied the adviser. The older man sighed and tutted. “You really do need to rest, young lord; servants, give him his medicine.”

The adviser left, a trail of his own servants following after him.

“NO! Stop it!” Ran tried to release his arms, but the servants hold on the cover was too strong for his meek strength. One of the female servants, quiet, opened Ran’s mouth and poured some cold, bitter liquid from a glass bottle down his throat.

Ran’s eyes grew heavy, and the servants let go of his blanket. “Please,” he muttered, his words slurred as the medication began to work through his system, “I just wanted to see how Dividing worked
just
just once
.”

Ran felt a large hand on his forehead when consciousness finally started to nag at his edges. It felt strange. Not that it didn’t feel like a hand, it did, but it was very warm, too warm for a hand to be. It felt rather nice to the man, whose body temperature was always below the common human temperature, so he didn’t make anymove to stop it.

“I’ve shown you my brother, now, Sun Koon!” A low voice hissed. “Now can we practice like you agreed.”

Ran groaned, turning over to tuck himself deeper into his covers. The hand was removed quickly and Ran tucked himself more as the cold started to creep back in.

_This must be a dream_, he thought, _why would Roen be in my room, much less with Sun Koon?_

Ran was satisfied with his own answer and began to go back to sleep.

**_Sun Koon_**

Sun Koon watched as Moon Ran returned to a deeper sleep, and he also noticed the glare Moon Roen gave his resting twin. Koon decided to ingore that last thing.

“Your brother is thin for his age, isn’t he? Does he harbor an illness?” Koon turned to Moon Roen, noting the similarities and differences in the brothers. Their facial features were the same, though their body structures, skin tone, and even hair were different. Moon Roen’s were more of a broader shape and color, but Moon Ran was just, he was just

“A star.”

“What was that?” Moon Roen sharp eyes turned to Koon. Koon muttered “nothing”. “Well,” continued the twin, “He has some mysterious illness that _everybody_ knows about, I’m surprised you don’t.”

Koon nodded. “As I have said at your Ascension, I have been training in seclusion since I was born, so I do not know as much about the main land as I should.”

“Well, Father sure knows about you. Anyway! Now we can go to the training grounds and you can show me your moves, right? I’m one of you Dividers know, so show me the ropes!” Moon Roen gave Koon a large smile, his every larger shoulders straining against his shirt as he stood and walked out of Moon Ran’s room.

Koon followed soon after, but stopped at the entrance to look back at the sleeping figure with the star like skin. Koon tilted his head as he examined Moon Ran even more.

“A stick. He looks like a stick as well.”Then Koon left to go meet Moon Roen at the training field. He closed the door, so the stick wouldn’t get more cold, and swore to himself that he would find a way to bring that stick/star back with him.
