STORY STARTER

Write a story about a character going on a dating show where they have been promised they will meet the love of their life, but something isn't quite right…

“Dating” Show

Randy was hopeful to make her ex burn with jealousy.

Dumping him after catching him flirt with another, Randy was ready for a new lover.

Her ex didn’t appreciate her and didn’t even care to understand her.

Every effort was made by her and only her.

Even the breakup in the end.

Since it wasn’t him, Randy had no qualms about opening her heart again to find the love of her life.

That was when she received an exclusive invitation to a dating show that she never heard of before.

Joining thirteen others, she would participate in a live filming. This in itself was nothing different from the other dating shows she watched. The surprising difference was that the show guaranteed true love.

“This is going to be a prank show, isn’t it?”

But to distract herself, Randy accepted, especially since the viewership would help promote her YouWatch channel as well.

She was confident with how she appeared on camera, being experienced with managing her brand.

On the filming launch date, Randy was excited as she climbed up the stairs to meet her fellow housemates for the show. For the next week, they would be living together in this share house. It was a perfect environment for love to blossom.

She wore a sexy outfit that her ex had prohibited her to wear outside. If it was going to be her love of her life, she would catch his attention before the other women became her obstacles.

With a toss of her wavy hair, she entered the front door with square shoulders and her head held high.

“Welcome,” a butler wearing a rabbit mask greeted her.

“Thanks for having me,” Randy said politely but confidently.

“Thanks for coming. You’re the first one here and right on time. Please take a beverage and settle down on the living room sofa.”

Randy poured herself a glass of red wine and settled comfortably on one of the leather living room sofas.

Sipping her drink, she noticed that the floor was tile rather than wood.

Interesting choice, she thought to herself.

Maybe because she was too excited to fall asleep last night and only caught a couple of hours of rest, she started dozing off.

She put her wine glass down on the coffee table in case it slipped from her fingers.

I’m just going to close my eyes for a bit until the next person arrives, she thought.

“Wake up.”

“Huh?”

Did I fall asleep? Randy thought with a surprise as she opened her eyes quickly.

She was in a different room.

As she tried to rub her eyes, she noticed that her wrists were restricted in her lap.

Silver cuffs.

“What!”

Randy tried to twist her hands out but it hurt.

“Is this a joke? Hey! Where are you? The person that woke me up!”

She tried standing but noticed that her ankles were also chained to the legs of the chair.

Panic rose like bile from her stomach.

“Help!”

“Calm down, everyone. This is part of the show. The love of your life is coming to save you. Just play along will you? The rules are important, so please read them carefully on the screen.”

The voice was coming from different directions and it felt like the speaker was right in the room with her.

Just then, the TV in front of her turned on and a list of rules appeared on the screen.

1. You have 30min to work together with your destined partner to escape.

2. There are five clues in each of your rooms that you can choose to share with each other.

3. In order to activate a clue in your room, your partner must sacrifice one of their clues.

4. Once one of you is freed, you can exit your room and enter the viewing room, where you can then free one person.

5. You can choose to give up at any time, in which case you willingly forfeit your chance to meet your destined partner. If you are not freed in 30 minutes, you will also willingly forfeit your chance to meet your destined partner.

Isn’t this a scam! Randy screamed in her head. No wonder they “promise” to find the love of your life, as long as you don’t “willingly forfeit”.

She sighed in frustration as she read the final rule.

6. You can communicate with your destined partner by pulling on the rope above you. It works like a radio, so only one of you can speak at a time.

Click.

A rope dropped from the ceiling in front of Randy.

A thirty minute timer appeared at the bottom of the screen and began to countdown.

Below it, a seventh rule appeared.

7. Upon willingly forfeiting, you will die and guarantee your chance to meet your destined partner in your next life.
