STORY STARTER
Your protagonist is a nurse who finds a misplaced letter written by a terminally ill patient.
Do the contents of the letter influence the nurse's actions?
The Timing Is Right
I start my job, night to dawn,
Wearing a name tag that shows my name is John.
Patients are coming and going, in and out.
But, some don’t go out.
I look in my bag with tools, and I see a note,
Unsure of what it wrote.
It reads, “I’m coming, Lory, don’t worry. You won’t be alone anymore, when I come let me through the door. I’ll see you soon and I love you.”
I was not certain of why this was here,
until I remembered a Pierre
Talking about his late wife,
If I can remember right.
I run to his room, and see that his heart
Has stopped beating, and apart
Of me felt broke.
All he did was have a miniature stroke.
I took a moment and thought,
“Is this the right timing? The right spot?”
He wants to be with his wife, not alone.
His soul, and hers, can rest in peace for eternity.
