POEM STARTER

Write a poem on the theme of sacrifices.
Candy Girl
I lean in
The plate is full
Overflowing with sweets drenched in honey
I want a bite
I slide a droplet
Of that sticky sugary bliss
Between my fingers
Imagining how it must taste
It’s so rich and aromatic
I resist.
I know my boundaries
Away I go
Lost in the sea of faces,
Pleasantries and fake smiles
I watch it rotate around the room
Admired by all
The plate slides my way again
I gaze over it
Examining its curves
Imagining its delicate softness
On my tongue
I take the smallest lick
My eyes cartoonishly grow
I’m speechless
For a brief moment,
I see god.
“Get that away from me” I mutter
Reluctantly
We drive home in silence
My hands clenched
I cried on the toilet
Another piece of me lost
