STORY STARTER
You are forced to spend the night in your car in the centre of a busy city.
Write a story about the experiences you have and people you see throughout the course of the night.
Simple Beauties
I shuffle in the front seat of my car, rearranging my array of cheap blankets. I'm parallel-parked next to a gas station, the only suitable place I could find in short time.
I rest my head on one of the blankets and observe the city around me. Twinkling lights are scattered like stars and the music of the rumbling city fills my ears.
I watch people going places; some are rushed while others are out for a good time.
Watching the city is like watching every possibility. Watching all the different experiences that I could have...
It's beautiful.
Deep down in my soul, I know these possibilities aren't possibilities for me. My common sense tells me what's true, but my heart whispers forbidden wishes.
Despite my sorrow, the beauty and simplicity of humans living their lives comforts me. It's as if I'm watching a fantasy I know I'll never have.
I listen to the city’s lullaby once more and my consciousness slowly slips away.
