Trophy Vs Flower

When I came out, I learned the difference between a mother and grandmother’s love

My mom loves me like a trophy

To her I’m pretty and shiny

An achievement

A badge

And if I shine bright enough,

Everyone will see her reflection

When they look at me

So to her

when I came out

I cracked

So she demoted me

To a less prominent place on her shelf

But to my nana, I was a flower

Uniquely beautiful

A wonder to watch blossom

Into whatever colors I ended up sprouting

So to her

when I came out

I bloomed

Into the flower she didn’t expect

But was happy to see grow

But now my nana is gone

So now I’m just a cracked trophy

In a cupboard

Collecting dust

I miss being a flower

I miss my nana
