Party Of One

At three o’clock

Cicadas buzz outside

In the dewy grass

Hidden by nighttime clouds

And your dorm room

Is finally deserted

The crowds that

Packed themselves in

To the limited space

Bumping loud music

Drinks so strong

They burn your throat

While the bathroom

Has become a jungle

It’s finally gone

And you are alone

Alone

To clean up solo cups

Strewn recklessly

Mop up beer stains

That leave sticky spots

On your linoleum floors

Pick through abandoned trash

Pocketing dollar bills

And vodka flasks

Half empty

Forgetting germs

As the room is covered

In them already

This is when the fun

Can really start

When it’s just you

A broom

And a garbage bag

You turn on lo-fi beats

And let yourself dance

As you change the sheets

On your bed

Take Lysol wipes

To every surface

And bask in the

Serenity of solitude

Those people

Who leave your life chaos

Can never measure up

To the peace you get

From a party of one
