Sam

His shadow loomed over the window. My heart hammered as I got closer. "Hi, Veronica. It’s me, Sam. Are we still going on our date?"

”Dammit, Sam! I thought you were a monster!” I reached to unlock the windowsill hatch, but just before I heard the latch click I realized something. At that very moment the same voice responded.

”Do you want me to be a monster?”

This wasn’t a familiar voice. I didn't respond. This wasn’t Sam.

“Fine then. I can be your Sam instead,” he continued.

“Just let me in!”he started to bang on the window tugging at the windowsill.

I quickly pressed on the windowsill and locked the hatch back.

“I’m calling the police!” I yelled back. I grabbed my phone and began to dial.

Before I knew it he was in my room.

“You left the door unlocked. Rookie mistake.” He inched closer and grabbed the phone out of my hand.

“911 what is your emergency?” we could hear the woman on the other end of the line. “Hello?”

“There’s not one,” he hung up.

We were alone.
