An R&R Story: Dancing In The Rain
โItโs raining,โ Rylee smiles, touching the car window, the droplets rolling down on the opposite side of the glass.
She takes her seatbelt off despite the moving car, and leans forward in her seat, looking up and out of the front glass.
โSit your ass down,โ Ravi growls, as he fights the car on the rainy roads.
โLook how pretty,โ Rylee replies, turning to her window and rolling down the window to stick her hand out and feel the rain.
โWhat-โ Ravi leans across the car and takes her hands from the window, locking the button so she canโt open it. โYou are such a child when it comes to rain.โ
โPull over,โ Rylee says.
โWhat?โ He laughs.
โPull. Over.โ
โWhat? Why?โ
Raviโs speed slows and he pulls over to the side of the road. A small paved path between the growing green trees, springing up on the sides of the gorgeous black road.
Rain pitter-patters on the windshield, Rylee grins at Ravi and tugs his arm. Ravi, who is still confused sits there and stares at Rylee, who is known for her mood swings and mean mouth with absolutely no warning. Heโs afraid this might be another episode.
โGet out,โ Rylee reaches across the car and pushes Raviโs door open. He fumbles in his seat as Rylee stretches across his lap to the door.
โYou littleโฆ whyโฆ? What are you-?โ Ravi stumbles and stutters, confused and a little scared. Rylee gives him a shy smile as she straightens up from his lap and gets out of the car. Ravi follows, still confused.
Once outside, she raises her face to the sky and breathes in the fresh scent of rain. Ravi looks up at the sky, a little dumbfounded then glances back at Rylee.
โRemember how we always talked about the rain?โ Rylee says, gazing into the rain which has begun to come down hard, kissing her lips and caressing her skin.
โYes. Yes I do,โ Ravi whispers, looking away.
โRemember how I wanted to dance with you in the rain? And you said you didnโt know how.โ
Ravi clears his throat, โRight.โ
When Rylee turns, Ravi is holding a hand out for her and grinning like a fool. He does a low bow and takes her hand, acting like a prince and looking every bit of the part.
Rylee squeals as he spins her close and pulls her into a tight hug, the rain falls around them in thick drops, landing on their eyelashes.
โWeirdo,โ Rylee says low as Ravi slows the dance, holding her and swaying to an unheard beat. โMy weirdo,โ she whispers.
โBut you love me,โ Ravi replies, looking over her shoulder as a car approaches and honks its horn, the driver smiling at the couple in the rain.
โMhm,โ Rylee lays her head on his wet shoulder and sighs, feeling his warm body pushed against hers.
Ravi brushes her long hair back and kisses her on the forehead, still swaying from foot to foot. Rylee pulls away and looks up at Ravi, who smiles and shows a small blush.
โI love you too,โ he says, shaking the water from his black hair onto Rylee, purposely avoiding her eyes with his own deep brown eyes.
They stand in silence, hugging each other in the pouring rain, Ravi squinting into the distance and Rylee grinning like a fool.
โThe rain brings out the difference in your eyes,โ Ravi says.
Rylee pulls away, suddenly embarrassed and walks to her side of the car. Ravi follows, opening the car door for Rylee as she ducks inside.
She watches from inside as he crosses in front of the car, running a hand through his dark hair and looking farther down the road.
Once heโs inside, all Rylee can do is stare at her handsome boyfriend, all wet and flustered- still confused, too.
Raviโs hand slides across the car and grabs Ryleeโs as he puts the car into drive and continues down the road.
Rylee bites her lip and waits for Ravi to drift into his thoughts. When he does, she leans across the car and kisses him ever-so softly on the cheek.
Even softerโฆ
Than the rain, itself.
