The Sun Sets On My Apartment

It’s the last time

the sun will find a crevice between skyscrapers,

to warm up my window and

bathe the room in sparkles,

comforting me and

stroking the leaves

of my spoiled fiddle leaf fig.

It’s the last time

I’ll step onto my balcony,

into the fresh air after a long day indoors,

to absorb the energy of

eager drivers and leisurely diners,

as dusk turns to night.

It’s the last time

I’ll look outside while watching tv,

after hiding all day inside

and pat myself on the back,

for insisting I get a place

with southern exposure light.

It’s the last time.

I loved it here but

the sirens here got so loud and constant,

the all I could do was hide inside my mind.

It’s right decision to move.

To start a new chapter.

It has to be.

But as the sun sets today,

I can’t help but notice that

this apartment is once again

quite the sight.

I had some gloomy days here.

but boy did this place

have great light.
