POEM STARTER

'Memory breathes'

Write a poem that begins with this line.

Breathes.

Memory breathes,

My brain falls deep,

In the sour nostalgia of it all,

Unending heaves,

As despair creeps,

I fight the dark war, the pressure to bawl,

Memory speaks,

My ears rattle,

My head struck with a hammer of fear, pain,

Drags on for weeks,

I lost the battle;

It’s getting much more difficult to feign,

Memory sneers,

Spits in my face,

Quickly reminding me of the worst,

Forcing my tears,

Drip down my face,

It taunts me just like a manaic curse,

Memory scares,

Like it’s a joke,

It doesn’t care that I am petrified,

I rip and tear,

I start to choke,

On the content smile that was once so wide,

Memory breathes,

But it’s not lovely,

Because you’ll never know which one will wake,

You’ll sit through grief,

Old wounds bloody,

From torment you are forced to once more take.
