Upside Down

As a child, when the house grew dull

I lay vertical on the couch and swung

Til my head touched the ground and my hair sprawled

On the stained carpet and I saw

The world in upside down

I pictured myself walking on the ceiling

Clambering over jutted doorway ledges

And would we mount our kitchen table

Next to the standing light fixtures

Or defy gravity to get into our beds

I may have spent too much time on my head, though

My brains became scrambled

And my eyes don’t sit right in their spots anymore

And I think my world is still a bit upside down

Because no matter what I do

I can’t seem to see it the same way

As everyone else
