The thing
Halloween was a time of year Annalise dreaded.
Small children would come to her house and knock on her door asking her for candy. Of course she never had any, but it didn’t stop people from visiting her home. This year she had a spectacular plan.
A sign.
A sign that read “This house has no candy”. Something that would be sure to drive trick-or-treaters away. It was foolproof. That was until she heard a knock on her door.
Sighing, she turned the knob and opened the door.
“There’s no candy at this house—“ her voice trailed off as she slowly looked up at the creature before her.
A tall man with a slimy, skull-like face. He wore a long trench coat and rain dripped down the sides of his tattered brown umbrella.
Annalise screeched out of horror of the thing.
“Who are you, what do you want with me!?” She screamed at the creature before her.
“I am no one. Come with me.” The creature rasped out. It slowly outstretched a hand toward the cowardly girl.
Hesitantly, Annalise took it and followed the creature out into the darkness.
