Vanity

I stumbled down a path

To your house.

The darkness barricading me

Behind and before.

My footsteps tread upon

The bodies of your victims,

But naivety consumed

My one-track mind.

Lust was all I knew

And as I opened your door,

I plunged unknowingly into death.

As I looked into your eyes,

I saw my future go up in flames.

A wife and children, never to be,

An intimate love never to be conceived.

I died that day when I stumbled into your den.

And all I knew was empty.
