I was taking a lovely winter stroll. Snow was starting to fall and I knew I had to get home. No one was there and the falling snow looked so beautiful in the fading light. It was peaceful, until I saw a strange silhouette in the distance. My cursed curiosity got the best of me and I decided to get a closer look. It was a Bernese mountain dog. It was whimpering and shivering. It looked like she was hurt. She noticed me and then started trotting away. I decided to follow her. We stopped in front of a lake that had been frozen over. The dog ran behind a tree and dragged something back in front of me. It was a golden brooch. The brooch was a beautiful flower with a turquoise jewel in the center of it. It looked so familiar, but I couldn’t quite put my finger on it. I took off towards the house and stopped when I realized the dog was following me. It was still whimpering and I thought maybe I should take her with me to my house and call a vet and see if they can do anything for the dog.
We got into the house and shook off the snow that was on us. “Honey, where did you get that dog,” asked my father. “I found her wandering outside in the woods. She seemed hurt can she stay with us until we find her and owner?” “Fine. What do you have in your hands?” “It’s this golden brooch the dog had found in the woods. It looked really familiar. Do you recognize it?” My father looked at brooch and started to get teary-eyed. He was almost at the point of crying until he said, “Yes I do recognize it. This was your mother’s favorite brooch. Apparently it was a family heirloom. She loved it so much and wanted to give it to you when you were old enough, but then she died. I think you should have it. Keep it safe.” I didn’t know what to say. I was so shocked, “I’ll protect it with my life.” Then we embraced in a hug.
Later that night I brought the brooch up to my room. I opened my closet door and pulled back all of my clothes. Behind them was a secret door. That’s where I kept all of my prized possessions. I have my first place trophies, my father’s first camera and the last gift my mother gave me before she died. It was a small little teddy bear that I loved so much. I put the brooch inside that little room and closed the door.
They were sitting together for the last time. One hooked up to many machines and the other was free. “You can’t die. I just realized my true identity. I finally came out to my family. I finally accepted who I am. You can’t die,” she took her girlfriend’s hand. She didn’t want to cry but she knew this was the end of her true love’s life. “Hope, you can’t help me. I have cancer and I’m not going to be living much longer. Heck, the doctors don’t even think I’ll live to see another day,” said the woman on her death bed. Hope looked sadly at her partner, knowing this was the last day she would ever see her again. “Look at me Hope. You can’t shut down after I die. You can’t become this dark looming shadow I first met. You have come so far. Never change for anyone. Don’t let me hold you back. Grieve for me then go out and have some fun, find someone new. Try new things. You’re finally becoming the person I know you can be. Promise me you’ll keep going,” said Joana with tears in her eyes. Hope’s eyes met hers and said,” I promise.” Then a loud beep and Joana was no more. Hope let out a loud cry and threw herself onto her dead partner’s body. She kept on repeating the words, “ I promise,” until the doctors had to usher her out of the room.
I leap out of bed and run downstairs for breakfast. I have my everyday favorite, cereal and run upstairs to get dressed. After I’m dressed I pack up my things for school. All of the essentials, laptop, books, phone, headphones, extra horse shoes, and my gym clothes. “Bye mom have a good day,” I call up to my mom. Then I go outside to my horse Molly, unhinge her and ride off to school.
My family has three horses, one for each family member. My dad has an American Paint horse named Gallop. Not the brightest name, but he named him when my dad was about six years old. Then there’s my mom. She has a Blaise horse named Shadow because of her dark coat. I have a dapple grey stallion named Molly. She’s really sweet. Although people bully me because I don’t have the most expensive horse. Actually she’s not that much money at all, but she’s very generous horse. We are almost to school when I hear it. A gunshot going off in front of the school.
Many people scatter and so do a lot of horses. I wait until the coast is clear to get a better look at the situation. I take out my phone from my pocket and start to dial 9-1-1 but then I realized they wouldn’t get here in enough time. I give Molly the signal to start trotting around the side to the building where most people would go if we ever had an emergency. Suddenly I hear someone scream after another shot goes off. Cautiously I move closer to where the sound was coming from. As we get closer I see it. A young boy, maybe in 6th grade lying on the floor and next to him is a young girl frantically going through her book bag. I get off from Molly but gave her the signal to stay on guard. “Hey what happened to him?” “He got shot in the leg. I don’t know what to do,” she exclaimed. It looked like she was about to cry. “Hey it’ll be alright....uh....why don’t we use my gym clothes to keep pressure on the wound. To make sure he doesn’t bleed out.” I quickly grabbed my bag and found my gym clothes. I decided to use my pants. They’re longer and would be easier to wrap around his leg. He was frozen in shock. I carefully wrapped my pants around his leg. “We need to get him to a hospital soon. Do you think you could do it? Where is your horse?” “He ran away. I wouldn’t be able to get Bryan to my horse in time.” “I’ll take him to the hospital. It’s only 2 miles away. I can do it.” I picked him up and put him on the back of Molly. I steadied him by placing my hand on us stomach and the other hand on the reigns. Off we road to the hospital.
The little girl tugged at the bottom of her mother’s coat. “Mommy! Look at that big teddy bear. Can I have it? Please!?” The mother looked at her daughter and sighed. “Kate, we came to the mall to get you a new dress for the party next weekend. Besides you have so many toys, you don’t need another one. Now come on.” Kate slowly walked away from the glass window; it was the only thing keeping them apart. Her mother kept a close eye on her to make sure that Kate didn’t slip away. Kate had never liked going dress shopping. She really wasn’t a girly girl. The only thing she really liked was stuffed animals. She cherished them. It all started when her oldest brother went off to college. Every year he would bring Kate a tiny stuffed animal. It soon became a tradition. Then after five years at college, her brother got into a car accident and died. Now Kate loves having stuffed animals around because it reminds her so much of her big brother.
After the dress shopping was done, Kate ran back to the toy store where she first found the giant teddy bear. Her mother was slowly following. Then a little old woman came up to Kate. “Hi dear. Is there anything you need help finding today.” “Yes. That teddy bear how much does it cost?” The old woman smiled and said, “That bear costs only 10 dollars.” The little girl fished in her pocket and found a five dollar bill. “This is all I have and my mommy doesn’t have enough money to get me it. It’s alright. I didn’t really want it anyway.” Kate hung her head low and her mother came up to the old woman. “Sorry if she gave you any trouble. I’m not getting any younger so it took me long to catch up to her.” The old woman looked at the tired mother before her and handed her the bear. “Look, don’t tell anyone but I have a good feeling about you two. So I’ll give you the bear for free,” the old woman smiled, handed the bear to the mother and walked back inside the store.
Later that night Kate ran up to her deceased brother’s room with the bear in her hand. The room had nothing more than a bed and a desk in it. The little girl put the teddy bear on her brother’s bed and said, “Hey Jack. It’s been a year since you’ve been gone and I thought you should have this bear to remember me by. I hope you’re okay.” Kate left the bear on her brother’s bed and walked out of the room. Then closed the door behind her.
(Warning could be triggering) She was always alone. No one spoke to her. No one even looked at her. She tried to speak but no one could hear her. She was alone. She had no friends and no family. Not a single soul to care for her. But quietly she cared for others. Healing them when they were hurt. Giving them a shoulder to cry on. Even though they didn’t know it was her. Seeing them happy was the only joy in her life. She knows the small acts of good she does will be worth it in the end. She wants to earn her wings. She only has one job left. A case named Angela Roberts. She was suicidal and was all alone. That night the angel rushed to the side of Angela. “Why are you doing this,” said the Angel holding her breath hoping the girl wouldn’t jump. Angela, without looking back said, “You would never understand my pain. You live in a world where things are always good. You never have to feel pain and soon enough I will be there with you.” “Don’t do it. I know right now it may seem like no one is there for you, but believe me even when are alone you will always have someone looking out for you.” “Someone like you? I need someone real, someone who I could call and they’d come right away. Someone who isn’t invisible.” “I know it’s hard to understand right now, but soon enough you will see that people care for you.” Angela took a deep breath and backed away from the ledge. The angle walked with the girl all the way home. “Thank you for your kindness I wouldn’t be alive without it,” said Angela. She hugged the angel goodbye and walked into the front door. The angel could hear sighs of relief and cries coming from the house where Angela lived. The angel looked into the window and saw the family close together in a hug. Some crying and some not. All seemed happy to see her. Then angel had gotten her wings and went back to her home in the sky. Although, every now and again the angel checks up on Angela to make sure she was alright.
