i was a superhero, nobody knew but me and i had wanted it to stay that way. as i was running out late walking around the city, i’ve had a bad urge to return home. as i headed home, i could hear my boyfriend yelling, screaming for help. i ran inside, bashing the door open as i see my boyfriend hanging from the fifth story window of our apartment with another stranger pointing a gun at him. shouting at him he’d shoot him of he didn’t let go of the handle he was clinging onto.
within seconds, i launch myself at the attacker as he fires two bullets into my chest. but it doesn’t affect me. no matter how much you hurt me, it will never kill me. i was built like iron man, except i didn’t have a suit. i mainly used a mask to hide my face, but i didn’t have enough time to do so.
the intruder stares at me, alarmed. i reach him, throwing him off the building as i pull up my boyfriend who stares at me in shock. he was now the only person who knew i was a superhero.
i smiled at him as i wrapped my arms around him. but i was okay with him knowing. because in the end, it was worth it.
“I saw what you did last night, and I told everyone.” I looked down at my phone at the coffee shop I went to every night. My heart started to race as I read the message. My hands started to shake as it made it difficult to type. “I have no idea what you are taking about, who is this?” “You murdered James Henderson.” replied the random number. My eyes widened. “Who is this?” I replied again. A phone notification goes off from behind me as I freeze. I looked down at the message, sending another text message, “?” The message ticked again from behind me as I quickly turned around, “It’s James.” James stared at me smiling, the cut I had made last night still on his throat as he laughed. I screamed, falling out of my chair as everyone in the cafe stared at me. I looked back to where James had been sitting only to realize he was gone. I looked down at my phone, there had been no messages from James Henderson. I sat back up, looking at my sister who had been sitting across the table from me. “Are you okay?” I sat back down. “Yeah, I just..” I dodge the question as I look down at my phone. I was expecting another message to appear, but there was no chat history of the random number. It was all a hallucination. “You should drink more of your coffee.” my sister smiles at me. “You seem to be tired after your long run down the alley last night.” I nod as I lift the coffee back to my lips as I look back at my sister, lowering the cup from my lips. “How did you know I was in an alley last night..” She smiles. “I saw what you did last night, and I told everyone.” My head starts to feel dizzy as the room starts to spin. I look down at my coffee seeing a bunch of white particles floating around. I look back at my sister as my eyes start to get us heavier.. and heavier..
I woke up this morning and noticed immediately that something wasn’t right.. I kicked the covers off of me as I started to look around my room for what ever seemed off. I looked inside my closet, underneath my bed, behind my dresser. I didn’t know what I was looking for, but what ever it may of been, I needed to find it.. The dreadful feeling of something off has been eating at me slowly as I kept looking around the room for what it was. I looked over at my husband, maybe he knew. I tapped on his shoulder, “Hey, hon. Mind helping me find something really quick? I think I might’ve lost something..” No response. I straightened my back as I looked over at his glass of water, his empty glass of water as I let a small smirk spread across my face. The poison worked a lot faster than I thought it would. I let out a small shriek as I look up at the cameras above our bed, running out of the bedroom as I start to dial 911. My heart ached for my dead husband, but I knew he should’ve never left with that woman last night. Hopefully my next husband won’t do the same thing as the other men.
I felt a cool breeze brushing against my skin as I slept on the couch in the living room. Out of pure curiosity, I sat up, seeing the mysterious door that I had always questioned was opened. I looked around for my grandparents, but none of them seem to be around. I crept off the couch and walked towards the mysterious door. There was a cool breeze coming out of the door, it had left goosebumps crawling down my skin. I turned on the flash from my phone. Nothing was inside the room, just a regular empty room. I turned off my flash, about to leave when a loud sound caught my attention. A sound of a loud crashing sound, like plates falling from the shelves during an earthquake. Shakened, I turned on my flashlight, shining it again to only an empty room. My heart started to pound in my chest as I slammed the door shut. What was in there? Where had the sound come from? Before a moment of thought, the door swings open as the cold breeze sucks me into the room. Everything was cold and dark.. I couldn’t see or hear anything.. until. “So you got curious about my grandparents door too?”
I slowly sat down in my chair at my desk.. It all made sense. It was the brother of the officer who had killed her, but he wouldn’t let his own brother go to jail, so he twists the evidence. How did none of us figure it out sooner? It was obvious. Weeks had passed ever since I found out the murderer of Dahlia Lewiston. I didn’t know how to come forward about it, so I went to the chief and told him everything. Every. Single. Detail. But, he laughed, pushing me aside. None of them seem to want to hear what I have to say, the truth. I set down my pencil, my heart racing as my door clicks behind me. I didn’t leave my door closed. I turned around, the chief pointing a gun start at my head. I knew I was right all this time..
dear diary, i’ve seen many things happening recently but i don’t know if it’s actually there.. cabinets had started to randomly open and close. i’m hearing voices whispering in my ear.. i don’t know if i’m slowly losing my mind or if there is actually something following me.. these medications don’t seem to be working right.
