They said She had wings They said she could fly They promised that she Had come to Earth from a demon’s side
They said she could kill With a glance of ruby eyes They said she could will Endless darkness in our lives
They said she could smile And make our blood boil in our veins They said she could laugh And summon forth her hellish flames
They told her To leave us alone They told her to go back home To the burning hell she’s always known To sit on her demoness’s throne As long as she leaves us alone
I told them to stop Leave the poor girl be But they raised their pitchforks and their knives and begged me to see A devil inside a child’s mind A demon in a girl’s disguise Satan in sweet Lilith’s eyes I couldn’t see their screams for more than lies
They said She had wings They said that she could fly They promised me that she Had come to Earth from a demon’s side
And when her hidden wings she raised All bat-leather black in the pouring rain The thunder rumbled and lightning struck And in the darkness her red eyes lit up She spread her wings and she took flight She flew fast and far from sight To the demon whom she had left To the hell which was of her bereft And she left a trail of corpse and blood The hell she raised had only just begun
So I stared after her Through the night sky As her wings disappeared Into the midnight
They said She had wings She spread them as she flew They said she had red eyes That pierced your soul when she looked at you It seemed in the end that what they had said All of it was true.
Lights flicker with the coming of the eve The sunlight refracts against steep glass The sky darkens with foreboding for the night None notice how the days pass.
Lights blink in the feast of color Silhouettes rush past shooting stars Dusk’s gloom falls on the shoulders of the young Oblivious, they carry the sky.
Lights sparkle radiantly in Nyx’s starry eyes The moon bewitches those below Burdens too heavy, they run for day’s sweet comforts If only they could see it, they would know.
Lights shine from the empyrean above Argent moonbeams caress the earth Silence at last cloaks the world in her pearly sheen The sun will greet them when they wake.
The willow weeps enough alone You need not cry with it
I hope you understand I need someone who understands And Every strand Of emerald leaves that falls like tears from the strong trunk of the great tree Knows me better Than I know the back of my own hand I have someone who understands Why should I keep looking? I’ll sit and cry Beneath sky Beneath the tree Because the willow is the only one who weeps with me.
As I looked into your eyes I saw my future go up in flames I saw the road before me burning instantly away And I was terrified that I would drop Far below and never find again the path which I had found
As I looked into your eyes I saw my future go up in flames I thought you knew that this was not the time for games I wished that I could know for certain what lies beyond that curtained smile Is it worthwhile?
As I looked into your eyes I saw my future go up in flames I stood still on the path which had long been burned away But left behind were but a myriad of stars Shining brightly as they lead me into your arms.
You keep the quilt pressed close to a sweating forehead, The golden light on to scare the dark Yet you jump at the sound of the mechanical lark.
Your wild eyes are forced open In a terrified trance you cannot deny You pray that no wolf will jump for sheep over a fence so high.
The lark screeches like an owl in the night Twelve chimes it shrieks And your heart leaps twelve times.
The creak and growl of silence chills each bone The pounding in your ears a constant hum, a constant drone And shall you live to see the light of day You ask a deity you didn’t believe in until now And if you do then how? Many have survived but you know of only some So you pray your door is shut tightly, might the monsters come. And you whisper to yourself:
Will the monsters come?
Once the sun slips behind the horizon When tomorrow leers over tonight Shadows creep around quiet corners Claiming buildings as their own.
Once the moonlight sparkles dimly After darkness takes the town Buildings whisper to one another While roads speak of nights to come.
But far from urban solidarity Far from the comforts of sweet home Black woods loom on the city’s edge Unheard from until twilight falls.
Howls rip through tall boughs of pine Twisted voices broken in time Shifting shapes and thudding hearts Fear as red eyes lock with mine.
It’s so close I can touch it I can smell it I can breathe the air around it It’s so close I can hear the serpent whisper in my ear The fruits of my labor grow so near A whisker’s length away A beautiful death away A shaky breath and I say No But it’s so close Scales wrap around my neck Squeeze tight till I’m out of breath Change your mind they seem to say There’s still time they deign to pray Laughing at devilish naïveté I am more than you thought I would be Push it in my hand I’ll turn away If it’ll kill me I know what I’ll say I’ll say No Just go Away You can’t tempt me You can’t trick me I’m better than You thought I would be Taught me well Now who am I? If you are the moon Than I am the sky Little snake who’s tongue did whisper Half a world away you now slither Use another for your cruel schemes I’m much more than I might seem I turned away Though it was so close Deaths away Now I’ll never know A smile away I don’t regret That I said no Just to see the look on your face.
Hope fades So does the light The waters of the sea of grief Close in around me Tight I try to swim for where it was I try to scream for there it was And now it’s gone.
I claw desperately at salted air Green blue and dark And I am there Drowning there For there it was And now it’s gone When all hope fails, what do we rely on?
It was a smile And then our fingers intertwined So soft and warm So kind and calm So perfectly divine It meant so much to me that first time
We walked along My hand slipped into yours I smiled and grinned Skin against skin I could have lost my mind It was so special because it was the first time
We ran away From all the eyes that watched I laughed and cried Moments frozen in time I was in a wonderland When I put my hand in your hand.
