STORY STARTER
An intergalactic jury has assembled to decide whether humans should be allowed to retain custody of Planet Earth
Acting as either the defence or prosecution for humans, give your closing speech to the jury

Climate change, plastic pollution, death. Some may say all of these are natural. Some, such as myself, may see the truth. Humans have caused such things and will continue to do so if we leave the fate of planet Earth in their hands.
Murder, famine, greed. Each one undeniably rotten. Why do humans allow it to continue while more can be done to prevent it? The answer lies in the question: they are human. It’s in their nature to destroy. It’s in their nature to be selfish and to live without fear of consequences. And it is humans themselves that breed each other to become such a way. Living without consequences is not the only way, however, humans fear consequences and therefore do not enforce them correctly. How can we leave the future of this planet in the hands of ones too scared to enforce change?
Irresponsible, unfavourable, detestable. Each of these words can sum up the human race. Each of these words, created by humans themselves can label the ones that have murdered other races for personal gain. Not only do they kill other races, but they kill their own. The planet is next if left in the hands of such creatures.
“With all of this trial’s witness statements and evidence taken into account, it is time for the prosecution’s closing statement. Try and keep it short, Mr Zeelorp.” Rumbled judge Xy’lander. “Thank you, your honour,” smirked Zeelorp. He knew there was no way the humans would win this custody battle.
“I would like to review evidences A through D, please.” A hologram popped up on the witness stand. A clip of a burning rainforest played, and several members of the jury had to look away as it transformed to images of drought-ridden farms. Juror 4 almost lost her lunch (well, technically she photosynthesises, but anyway) when it cut to images of land and animals decimated by hurricanes. But the kicker was Exhibit D: a list, more like a book, of species that humans had caused to go extinct. There were audible gasps throughout the courtroom and judge Xy’lander had to bang their gavel several times before order was restored.
“All of you have seen just snippets of what humans have done to their planet. It’s atrocious! If this was a child, no jury in this galaxy- no, in this universe- would give this negligent and abusive parent custody. Humans were on Earth for the blink of an eye in terms of cosmological time, and they managed to completely destroy it. They murder their own kind, drain resources until there are none left, and have used chemicals and substances- think plastic- that have been banned throughout several galaxies because of the environmental damage they cause. I think Earth should be transferred into more loving hands, so to speak. Perhaps the Sekree people could start by sending a cleanup crew and then hand over to the Zwestanians and Quanters for restoration?
He took a dramatic breath inside his water-filled helmet before continuing: “Just before lunch, we heard from Mother Nature. She was so weakened, sickly, and downright depressed that she had a hard time stringing sentences together. Who did this to her? Humans! Weak and primitive humans! I’m not saying we should exterminate them, of course; we shall not stoop to their level. The prosecution recommends that humans remain on their planet- not much of a choice considering their lack of technological advancement”- there were a few laughs- “and have other species, such as the ones I mentioned earlier, take up residence to assist them.”
The jury murmured amongst one another. He’d made some really good (if not flamboyant) remarks.
“Perhaps we could even offer an exchange program, and strengthen intergalactic bonds? But the prosecution’s most vehement request is that those responsible for the most damage don’t go unpunished. Corporations more focused on profit than protection should be torn down, and their owners sent into the CsZ47Q asteroid belt. These people killed a PLANET... Not a single civilisation in the history of the universe has done that to their own home!”
“Wrap it up, Zeelorp,” said Xy’lander.
“I think I’m finished, your honour.” He sat down, and waited for the vote.
Your honour I speak on behalf of the people that inhabit the planet earth.
From our close observation I stand firm to say that they are still not ready to inhabit other planets .
With that in mind I have been vowed to address why they are not welcome and for you to now seal this request that their entry stay forbidden.
We plead that you will honour this decision.
You will be highly amused and a bit saddened when you see the horrendous reports held on them as to why they are not ready to know any world that is beyond their own.
I know this meeting was because there are those that would indeed be ready and could be handpicked to join the other worlds that are different to theirs.
But then there are those that have evil within them .
So due to the reports from our studies we stand firm to say that to place each one of these beings in the evil scanner machine would be too time consuming and not to mention they could send the purity capsule on a lockdown mode .
Also do bear in mind that they are a useless race and so it would be in your interest to just let them be.
I ploy at this time they stay monitored and it continues we gift them tiny samples of what they call technology.
They are fragile beings and so the conclusion is to just play with them and let them grow and develop as we carry on to feed them with just a tiny taste from the other worlds.
We will be introducing humanoids to them in the hope that one day all planets will be able to unite.
In the meantime we have placed Planet Earth on a red alert for they know not what they are doing and so will continue to destroy their planet and each other.
It would be a disaster to let them have access to other worlds that are so beautiful and at peace .
If this behaviour continues we are hoping the humanoids will wipe them out and make planet earth their own .
But that invasion may not be necessary if the humans clean their souls.
The future of the sola-system cannot be interrupted because of these mortals,
so I plead with your honour that you do not grant them access to worlds other than their own.
Maybe one day the evil that drifts within some of these beings will be removed ,
but as of yet it follows them like a thick cloud .
One that would be too much of a burden to tackle.
Therefore I beg you let your people and theirs remain to be distant and the jury consider to re open this case in 1000 yrs from now.
From the planet earth team this case is now closed .
I believe humans should not return because they of planet earth, but should still have freedom. As humans in all living species make mistakes, but humans need to learn to learn from their mistakes. Instead of one species roll planet earth, I’ve come up with a compromise. My proposal is that there becomes a council. This counselor contains one of each species that is selected based on what their actions are, what their passion is, and are they capable of being a leader. With this, and counsel will pick for humans to be on the council with him, to discuss laws in any case is needing a resolution. The government may stay intact, but all cases must be And reviewed by the council to be prosecuted. With this being said, the planet can continue to run but not fully be in control. In conclusion, humans should have a say, but should not retain custody of planet earth.
It’s not surprising you assemble to debate our demise. The fact you haven’t gathered sooner on this issue is much to my surprise. I may not have the answer you seek but I am here to advise, So hear my words carefully for it is to you I will confide.
Planet earth has been burdened with mankind since he took his first breath. Since the beginning of time brothers have turned on one another, causing the others death. They’ve lied, they’ve stolen, they can’t seem to find rest. Humans have no limitations, their sins we know not their depth.
The planet has deteriorated with such disgrace. The earth does not recognize itself, it has become such a horrible place. Even the sun dreads to shine on its blackened face. Yet humans continue to destruct at a fatal pace.
Mother’s abort the children they carelessly created. They demand women’s rights when it’s their own self respect that has obviously faded. They give their bodies away because their confidence has failed them Keep preaching for your rights honey you aren’t solving the problem.
Men are no longer men, really, where did all the men go? The closest thing we have left is a chick pumped up with hormones. Dudes obsessing over themselves because they can proudly call themselves a homo I’m not judging your lifestyle, but limiting yourself to your sexuality is a no go.
You’re more than that, mother’s and fathers, boys and girls. So see what you’ve done and take back your world. Be kind to one another despite how different you are. If someone offends you, it’s okay, you don’t always have to be so hard.
This world you are in has taught you the wrong things. It’s good to be different, you can’t all be the same. I know life is tough but it’s a lot better than it seems. Stop listening to fools, go out and be free.
See people aren’t the best and they’ve made a lot of mistakes. But I ask you to reconsider this motion for their sakes. See the earth was created differently, it’s purpose was to withhold life And sometimes life doesn’t always go right But one thing I know about people is that they have the ability to change Even those who are the most far gone can come back to grace So I ask you not what have the people done but instead who you are You are not the creator of these people nor are you the one who gets to decide who they are.
International Space Station #114 Year 2627
“Your honor, I understand that humans were the first intergalactic creatures to inhabit the planet, but as more and more higher life forms come to earth, it is hard to say that we are still the only life form who has control on the planet! Actually, new studies in Americanã show that the earth habits 46% humans and 50% unworldly species and 4% mixed. I don’t think that it would be fair to have humans control the earth when they they don’t even inhabit half of the population! In the near distant future, I will assure you that most of the population will be in the mixed category. Please consider this, thank you.
