Back of my mind
I stared at him, my soulmate.
Lucas Warren Yure I forced a bright smile to my face. “Hi! Lucas?” He gave an equally bright (but far more genuine) smile back at me. “Yep, Elizabeth May Tucker, I presume?” We talked for a while and eventually I learned to love Lucas Warren Yure, the only name on my wrist. We got married and have a lovely little boy, Lewis Quill Yure, his soulmate Jordan Taylor Smith . We were the perfect picture of a happy name-matched couple. But throughout it all, our dates, our marriage, even the raising of our son, I found myself rubbing the back of my neck, thinking of the name there, on the back of my neck, the back of my mind. So yes, I love Lucas, his name is inked on my skin after all. But I wonder about the other name, permanently resting on the back of my neck and the back of my mind. Castiel Matthew Turner. The other name in my life, the boy that might have been.
Ink of destiny
When we are created we are born with our destiny’s laid out before us, predetermined. We know how smart we are going to be. What path our education will take. Who we will end up with. Where we will live and within what bracket. What jobs we will work and when we retire. Finally we know when and how we are going to die. It all happened in the year 2035. People stopped naturally having babies. For three whole years not one person gave birth. And then the impossible happened. You would wake up one morning, and from somewhere a baby would appear on your doorstep. One arm would be inscribed with the child’s fate in dark ink. It became one of the biggest mysteries of the world. But also one of the biggest joys. After much theorising and head scratching people came to terms with it. The world became peaceful. Until, over one hundred years later I came along. Two different destiny’s, both arms full of ink. With me free will was delicately introduced back into the world. And I was hated for it.
Something Special
Today was the day I meet them. My Soulmates. Yeah, yeah, I know what you’re thinking. ‘Everyone only has one Soulmate.’ Aren’t those such pretty names?
Oh! I completely forgot to introduce myself! Hi, my name’s Michael! Here I am, at the Matching Office in California. I’m just sitting there in front of the woman who just matched me up with the other two in the waiting room. I’m so nervous.
OH SHIT THE DOOR! “Um, hi, I’m—“ before I can even finish my sentence, one came over and hugged me. Tight too.
“I know who you are, Caleb. I can’t wait to be with you.” He was wearing joggers, some sneakers, and a hoodie. His hair was so soft, but then, the other came over to pry him off.
“Alright, guy, off my man.” Jet-Black hair, smoothed back. Leather jacket, ripped jeans, and leather boots...and those eyes. Those piercing blue eyes. “Hey, baby! I knew you’d be cute.”
“Oh, gosh, you think I’m cute? Low standards—“Of course you are, sweetheart! What’s a little extra on the outside? Just means you’re gonna be nice to snuggle with.” It was the one with the hypnotic eyes. He didn’t seem like the snuggling type, but hey, I could tell he was plenty buff. Maybe even strong enough to carry me. That’d be nice.
“Hey, buddy, why are you trying to get romantic with him? I’m the one with his name tattooed!” He raised his sleeve, and there was my name. Michael Castellanos. The other was shocked, he looked at the Matchmaker and sighed, rubbing his temples.
“Alright, chicky, what joke are you pulling here?” He was clearly annoyed, so I backed up a bit. They both took a step towards me, then stepped back.
“Well, looks like I get to explain now. You see, Michael here is a special person. He has both of your names. Always has.” She waved her hand in my direction, and I showed my wrists, and there clear as day, were the names Adrien Williams and James Legacy.
“Uh, yeah. This isn’t a joke...You’re both my Soulmates.” They weren’t exactly.....taking it well.
The one in leather walked over to me, and smiled. “Sweetheart, you do know you’ll have to choose, right?” He put an arm around my waist, and held me close. I could tell he wanted me and me alone, and the other guy, he did too.
“No, I don’t. I choose not to choose.” So, I didn’t, and here we are. They both love me, and are starting to get along better. It’s only been a few hours since I met them. James, the one with the bright blue eyes, he’s got a cute secret sweet side to himself; and Adrien, he’s just happy that I didn’t choose to make him be lonely. I never would’ve done that to him! He’s as small, and cute as James is big and tough. Us three are together, and I couldn’t be happier.
