Swirling smoke Rising flames Ferocious wind That builds up inside me Started as a candle Slowly getting hotter Glass holder shattered Smoke rose above Wind picked up The anger inside has broken free Running wild Nothing can contain it The flames burn anything in its path The wind can blow over skyscrapers Smoke suffocates anyone caught inside The candle once so small Now erupted into flames There is no turning back now
Swirling smoke spills like rising waters from my bedrock lips, It hisses in the air like smoke drawn dragons, Licking and slithering in my direction, They flicker their fire hot tongues at me, Begging to consume me once again.
The cigar in my fingers feels heavy, Leadened with too many half-willed promises, I know I should snuff it out, That wildfire on the end that promises to ravage all that it touches, But my lips meet that papery edge once more, And I am too far gone to stop, Too addicted to that familiar warmth that embraces me.
I go in for a second drag, And then another, And another, Before long that smoky dragon has its hands around my throat, And once again, I am too weak to defeat it.
Swirling smoke Rising from the cigarette that rests between your long fingers. Your nails painted a dark, deep red. I notice they match your lips. I am mesmerized.
I unabashedly stare at you. Exhaling your day into the night sky. Swirling smoke carrying with it your faults. You look troubled and afraid. But you conceal that well through a labored grin. You wonder if anyone can see it.
I so desperately want to befriend you.
To approach you like a fond memory.
But I know better.
It would be a rouse, for you are a great pretender.
You had to have been, to survive.
So I sit quietly, in admiration of you. Hoping that you will look back at me, Giving the chance, the hope. But instead you stare into the distance as if you see someone you recognize. Shrouded by the swirls of smoke that billow from the lit cigarette resting between your long fingers.
When the swirling smoke around me cleared I could finally see my reflection in water. Something about me was different, the thing that made me who I was was gone, the person that shaped my life had vanished with out even a word of good bye. Now I had to be the person that I never thought I could be, but now I didn’t have a choice. My life is forever different. I have made it this far, and now is not the time to give up.
A sky that stays bright and blue turns dark. Its hard to imagine something so beautiful vanish. We need away to preserve the beauty. Color fades and warm turns to cold. I want comfort. Whether i stand or sit i have access to rolled up pieces of earth to put to my lips like chap stick. I take in the burning earth as if it would breath new life into me. After a few deep inhales i float. My boat is beyond the water sailing towards the sky. Im sailing on the clouds. My thoughts and feeling are written in the clouds. They pump like giant speakers. All i want is to reach the other side of the dark clouds. I want to see the light and bright closers of day. Im in a dream but away at the same time.
