When I Look In The Mirror
When I look in the mirror I see
You
I see your blue eyes reflected in mine
I see your curly waves in the ringlets of my hair
I even see the same face shape
When I look In the mirror
All I can think of is you
We both have things in common
I got my love for nature from you
I got my need for adventure from you
And my love for country music from you
I even got my hate for mashed potatoes from you
I think of you
And I try to find the qualities in me that intertwine with your own
Sometimes it’s hard
Sometimes it’s not
But when someone says
That I’m just like you
Something in me heals because I have something to hold onto
Something in me breaks because it pains me that since you’re not here I have to hold onto things that don’t even matter
I feel both
All at the same time
And so when I look in the mirror
When I think of all of my likes and dislikes
I can’t help but see that
I truly am my fathers daughter
And I couldn’t be more proud
