POEM STARTER
Compose a self-aware poem
Think of creative ways to show that the poem acknowledges that it is itself a poem.
Aware
You know you are aware
When you feel the hair on the back of your neck
And the way the clothes touch your body
You know you are aware
When sounds get to loud
And the walls close in
Though that is so aware
It gives me anxiety
Just standing over there
You know you are aware
When your limbs feel too tight
And you don’t think your head is screwed on quite right
Or is that called insanity?
The feeling of loosness
That pushes the boundries of freedom
Into a new domain of captivity
You know you are aware
as you read this poem now
Your eyes scan the screen
As they would I crowd
You must think I am crazy,
To be writing like this.
Or are you just aware?
Are you aware of the way you just blinked?
Or the dripping from your kitchen sink?
Are you aware that I don’t know what to write next, or is it just a test?
Are you aware of your surroundings?
Are you aware that this poem shall soon come to an end?
For I am aware of the dragging words
And the way it must bore
Are you aware of that?
Are you aware of me on the other side of the screen?
Are you aware that you you are reading this?
Are you aware of the double word in in that past line?
Or the double word in that line too?
Are you aware that i assume you checked for the double word,
And are you aware the last line is coming.
I am aware of the words I write
And the fights I fight
I am aware of how my fingers move
Writing out this trashy message.
But are you aware,
Of anything?
