Was I asked how to help with your future best seller😉? No but I do have a few tips!
There are five main steps to building the perfect story:
1.) FIRST DRAFT
Writing the book is extremely hard, especially the first draft. So what I would recommend is jsut for the first time writing it, just writer whatever comes to mind, it doesn’t have to be neat, it doesn’t have to be perfect with no errors, you can time hop, just GET. THE. IDEAS. DOWN. Just out of your head and down in writing so no ideas or forgotten because all ideas are amazing, and it’s a little sad when you have a good one and it runs away from you. It can go like this if you want.
“There was a fight, Character A got punched, character B helped them,”
Then the next line could just totally move on entirely! As long as you are getting down what needs to get down.
2.) TRANSITIONS
Now while your first draft is going to be all over the place, try to add little transitions like why the fight happened or how the Character got to the school, or fell down whatever happened. So it should run a little bit smoother than just blocks that doesn’t really go together, like building a castle, when you have the bricks set up, you need the paste to hold them together you know?
3.) CHARACTERS
It is VERY important that your characters have things special about them. I would recommend getting a whole new sheet of paper, or new doc, and write the name of each character and give each one a backstory, and basic things they like and don’t, like for the book I’m working on right now, the MMC(Male Main Character) is more emotionally blocked off and likes simple things like the rain, and has a connection with music whereas the FMC (female Main Character) is a little ball of sunshine that likes the sun and is really good at figuring things out about people but is bad at school subjects or most of them that is. But you have to show how they react to certain things. And remember nothing is permanent! You can change anything at any point! This is like the paint on your castle that you use to make it look more like a castle and a lot less like just bricks. And sometimes the character kind of write by themselves. It’s kind of weird but you need to get to know your characters, you may have an idea, but that’s not how you wrote your character so he kind of goes off and does his own thing. It’s hard to explain😜
4.) DIALOGUE
Something that makes your story so much more interesting when it isn’t just paragraphs. So adding some speaking between characters or monologues, it makes it feel a lot more real. But dialogue is very difficult, I should know I struggle with it for sure. But try reading it out loud and see if it sounds smooth, and makes sense, and doesn’t feel written or forced. Readers don’t like forced dialogue. But do they have an accent? Something they say like a punchline? And you don’t have to have a lot, just occasionally a little hey here and there🤣 this is the fancy decorations in the castle like couches, beds, carpets, ect.
5.) ENVIRONMENT.
Now, every story needs to cycle through certain things, like dialogue, thoughts how they react to those thoughts (VERY IMPORTANT) but one that is forgotten often, what is going on around them. Not only what they are doing and who they are talking too, but what do they feel on their body’s, what do they hear, what does it smell like? What can they observe? This is the village around the castle that makes the castle significant.
5.) FINAL DETAILS
Now that you have the basic ideas down b, characters, ect. Go over it and make sure that everything fits together the way you want it to. And add some figurative language like metaphors, quotes, idioms, similes, ect. all help paint a picture! Because it’s YOUR story, you’re in charge! So if you don’t like one part, THROW SOME YOUNG WRITER SPARKLES ON THAT BAD BOY! Just don’t forget to elaborate on pretty much everything. If we were talking about the fight I mentioned earlier, in stead of saying, “A punched B. But. C helped him.” Say something like, “The anger built up in A before he couldn’t take it anymore. Before his thoughts could catch up to his actions, the landed a punch directly on Bs jaw. He hit the floor with a loud thud. But I didn’t regret it. C ran over and attempted to help B with his wounds, and it hurt me that she had to deal with this.” I know I got the characters mixed up but you get the point😆And it ties it all together like the little details does the castle, so once you are done, your castle should have vases and chandeliers, and gold linings, maybe even castle magic, like wizards or magic paintings!
Of course there are a billion other things things to do, but once you got the basic castle down, do with it what you want! Jsut know your the queen of that castle, so you are the only one who can change it. And the fun part about stories, is that they are all yours. Everything you want to happen happens!
Also sorry it’s so long, and sorry for the castle reference, I like fantasy and it helps me when writing so I thought you might like it! Maybe I’m just a little kid but hey! I’m not complaining🤣
But just write that book and don’t ever give up! It will be worth it one day.
(And you will get to rub it in the face of all the people who said you couldn’t do it😆)
(P.s. I’m sorry if there is a lot of spelling mistakes it’s really late where I am I just wanted to stay up to give you the feedback, that is hopefully helpful🤞)
