POEM STARTER

Submitted by Margaret Sok

“You’ve come back, but I no longer need you.”

Write a poem or short story including this line.

Ivory evenings

Whispers of wind into an ivory evening,

Traces of gold into the sleepy sunlight,

And me, waiting.

Dusty rainbows settled upon the lazy fluffs,

Shadows of pink to cover naked clouds,

And you, leaving.

Fierce air whipping the foreign arms around you,

Scars of a burning soul into your eyes,

And “us”, dying.

I prayed for rain, to wash away the darkness,

I prayed for fire, to burn down this pain

I prayed for winters - cold and everlasting,

I prayed in vain!

Ivory evenings filled with unforgivable desires,

You’ve come back, but I no longer need you.

The darkness laughs…

And me, surviving.
