Why did you have to hold the red rose,

into your palm, supporting the thin stem

between your thumb and index finger?

Didn’t you know that this means misery?

Why did you look away when rain was starting,

exactly to the left, and raindrops

fell onto the right eye, in shape of tear?

Didn’t you know that this means treason?

Why can’t you understand that we are doomed,

That all the signs are pointing to the end?

Why did you laugh when I avoid the black cat?

Didn’t you know, this means you are a whiz?

I cannot be with one who’s born in April!

I cannot fall for someone with green eyes!

I cannot love someone who eats black cherries!

Don’t ask me why! Don’t ask me why!

For, if you ask, there’s something bad to happen,

And if you blink while reading my sweet verse

Then there’s a hidden message in the poem

That only chosen ones could see!

Oh, there’s a small black bird behind your window?
