Days turned to months,
months to years:
it’s been half a decade
since the moon last appeared
At first, it was pleasant,
constant sunshine warmed our spirits
curing seasonal depression
and making everyday a beach day.
Soon enough things shifted;
Northern ices melted,
flooding global coastlines,
causing damage catastrophic.
The constant barrage of radiation
exponentially increased rates of cancer...
“Hear ye, hear ye!
I have arrived!”
cried the grand old medicine man
from the seat of his wagon.
_Clip clop, clip clop_
went the horse’s hooves
across cobblestone roads.
Townsfolk emerged from each
building he passed
summoned by his cries
and constant barrage of his bell.
“I have come from afar,
I have traversed the whole globe,
I bring spices and ointments
to heal illness and wounds!”

Poseidon arises from a century’s sleep
God of the Sea, King of the Deep.
He longs for his lover
a small, gentle soul
human and fragile
without eternal woes.
He sings a sweet ballad
a grand, ancient tune:
“Oh, Anna, my dearest,
come to me
and sleep with the moon!”
Below him in Heaven,
she lives her small life
battling daily struggle
he watches her strife.
“Oh, Anna,” he sings,
“how I wish you ...
Soft, pointy ears twitch
sensitive to every small sound;
a long, furry tail goes swish,
as the being stalks around.
A short pink nose
and an aptitude for chasing,
she dislikes the green hose,
and enjoys randomly racing.
From head to tail she’s fluffy
and she loves to claw me roughly;
if ever there’s a varmit near
she’ll catch it and then bring it here!...
I stand at my kitchen counter, prepping a variety of colorful ingredients for my next dish. Diced red peppers, white onions, and green cucumbers adorn my cutting board; using my pairing knife, I push the collection of vegetables into a large, glass bowl full of raw ground beef. I crack a pair of eggs on the rim of the bowl, carefully applying the correct amount of pressure so I don’t accidentally ...

into the atmosphere,
past polluted clouds,
reaching for the heavens as
our insult to God.
On the streets,
a shifting, ameoba-like mass of bodies
hustle to reach their
individual destinations
giving no regard for personal space.
All imaginable colors
are amply represented here;
however, they are all artificial,
for no nature can survive

Midnight eyes stare blankly from the woods
piercing my soul,
shaking my resolve.
Yet, I press on,
delving deep, deep onward
cutting aside bristle bushes
and hanging vines that block my path.
My brain is screaming at me;
every living fiber of my being tells me
“TURN BACK! LEAVE THIS PLACE!”.
But I cannot,
I must find glory,
my ego is the only part of me that insists I continue.

Ancient, green giants
tower lovingly across the land
stretching out as far as her eyes can see
from the hilltop above.
A canopy of leaves,
a blanket of earth below,
“All hail to the trees!”
she cries, longingly.
She kneels down,
resting body, spirit, and mind
clearing her thoughts and
pushing aside her worries and wonders
for all she can think of
are the trees.
