I've seen the world in all its glory, From the tops of towering mountains, To the depths of the vast sea.
I've wandered through bustling cities, And walked along quiet country roads. I've tasted the flavors of many lands, And felt the warmth of the sun on my face.
I've met people from near and far, And learned of their stories and their dreams. I've seen the beauty of this world, And felt its magic in my soul.
Through all my travels, I have come to know, That no matter where I roam, There is no place like home.
A voice that nobody else can hear Singing a song of sorrow and fear It grows louder with each passing day A sinister message it has to say
You try to ignore it, but it won't go It's with you wherever you may go A constant companion, a haunting tune It fills your mind and consumes your thoughts
You feel its power, a dark embrace It pulls you in, you can't escape You try to fight, but it's too strong The voice has won, you're all alone
It whispers to you, a deadly rhyme A promise of darkness, a life of crime You can't resist, you're under its spell The voice controls you, it's all you can tell
You've lost yourself, you're not the same The voice has changed your very name You're a puppet, a pawn in its game Forever trapped, you're the voice's gain
You'll never be free, you'll never be whole The voice will always have control It's won the battle for your soul A dark and twisted fate, your final goal.
“Can I get a tipping of The Red Flame, lady”
“Sure thing- man”, Larvella said whilst her middle eye rolled, from the lack of manners this Groot brought to the tavern.
She was growing tired of the lack of decorum in this place. Was it really too much to ask to at least get the right label for her species.
“Jorg”, she said whilst pushing the tipping of juice to the man.
“What was that?”
“I’m a Jorg. Not a lady. I thought you would have learnt that by now after being here for a few months.”
“I’m sorry m’Jorg, bad habit I guess.”
Larvella’s eye rolled again whilst she started shuffling around glasses, trying to tidy up this place after the previous nights drama. “I’m tired of this place, can we split?” her middle said.
Looking up toward her middle eye Larvella sighed and thought maybe this time she was right. Things were beginning to get more rowdy here, the same people come and go every day, and still no-one even tries to acknowledge her as one-of-them.
”Here you are sir, her head - just as you asked.”, screamed Ajax.
”This is the 76th person I have brought you. How much more pain and torture must we endure?”
The ground begins to shake and a deep roar comes out from the enormous face that's in front of him. ”Do not talk to me about torture”, it shouts. ”I've been stuck here for nearly 1000 years and you have the audacity to lecture me about pain and torture.”
Ajax shuffles back slightly from the edge of the steps he was just standing on, making sure he has a firm footing.
Standing up straight with his chest raised up he agitatedly screams back, ”You’ve made me kill 75 of my closest friends, and now I'm standing here holding my dead wife's head. So yes! I will talk to you about pain and suffering!” He accidentally pauses for a moment as the images come flooding back to him from barely an hour ago where he brutally murdered the love of his life.
The face lets out a bellowing laugh before Ajax can pull himself back from those horrifying images. ”Haha, that's merely a right of passage from where I'm from. You humans and too soft and clearly that has been the demise of your kind. Bring me 24 more and you shall be free to carry on with your pointless existence.”
The thought of having to carry this on for likely another 100 days suddenly hits Ajax as he falls to his knees, still holding his wife’s head as if he's trying to comfort her.
After sobbing for a few moments he opens his eyes and a piercing look covers his face. He puts one hand on the ground as he pushes himself back up onto his feet.
After a deep breath, Ajax lets out an angry roar as he swings his body around and hurls his wife’s head straight into the face. ”You will NOT control us any more. Why even bother trying to become free when every person I must kill to get us there takes away what it means to be free in the first place. Screw you and your kind.”
Ajax spits into the abyss before turning to sprint down the stairs and begins his sprint into the covers of The Darkened Forest.
Just as he gets within 100 meters of the forest edge he begins to feel the ground beneath him shake and a rumbling noise begins to grow behind him.
He wants to look back one last time to see what might be coming for him but he knows it will only slow him down..
It’s a trade secret. You can’t tell anyone. When you become a doctor you take this oath, and The Remote is bestowed upon you.
You enrol patients into your clinical trials, but they aren’t assigned to the group receiving the drug that will save their life. You know they will die without The Remote.
So you click click click, and they change. They take care of themselves, they’re optimistic, they eat well, they exercise, they socialise with their friends. They believe they will survive.
Of course you can’t save everyone, but The Remote makes a hell of a lot of difference for the patients who you’re not allowed to treat with medicine.
And the public look on, thinking how crazy it is that the placebo effect actually works! But you know it’s really The Remote.
You’ve tried this before but you still think you can kill me? Last time you lost when you brought along the strongest members of your tribe. They gave it their best shot but they underestimated my determination.
This time it seems you’ve returned and you think you can beat me just in shear numbers. Well, try your best. You’re about my underestimate how tactical I can be.
There’s a reason my tribe has owned this rich land for multiple lifetimes and why we will continue to do so.
You will always try and outcompete us by using your muscles or your size but so long as we continue to fight with our hearts, you will never win.
They were initially created to help reduce the strain on humans in dangerous jobs such as meteorite mining and and planet exploration. Having the opportunity of being a multi-planetary species lead to a huge drive in talent and monetary investment being throttled into new companies that could fill the new American Dream of living in space.
The goal was lofty but now people knew it was not only possible but also affordable, being on Earth seemed so basic and 25th century. People were always saying the speed of innovation kept accelerating but this new era made everything else disappear in comparison. New companies could be started, a success and a massive failure in a matter of months.
Hundreds of years ago, the legendary Captain Musk warned about this as a potential outcome of the success he had made possible but little did he know it would become way worse than even he could imagine.
Things were incredible over the last two hundreds years and I’m glad I got to experience it all. New worlds were terraformed, new species were organically created and universal peace looked like it could just be around the corner.
If anything was to derail progress I think people would have expected it to be those bloody Cryptonions who believed they were the perfect species.
Red Origin, the company behind the creation of the machines that turned them into the most valuable company in the Universe, managed to bring the universe down to its knees with the same machine.
I don’t think anyone really knows what brought it on but most of the tales think it had something to do with some kind of hacking agency that just managed to probe a few levels deeper than they should have. No-one really has any clue but how else does an ‘unhackable robot’ suddenly become hackable? Haha.
Regulators couldn’t stop it, they’d become redundant years ago so every company could say whatever they wanted in their marketing and all consumers would just take it for what it was. ‘Unhackable’, haha!
It does crack me up that the smartest people alive can drive things forward but it’s the dumbest people really have the most impact. All it took was years of planning, enough corruption at the high levels of Red Origin, the cash flow handed to me by my disgustingly success step-father and one word in a marketing campaign, ‘Unhackable’. God that never gets old.
It wasn’t even that hard.
