POEM STARTER
Write a poem that incorporates clothing somehow.
What you wear, how you wear it, and where you go in it can shape many things. Explore clothing however you please!
Writings
The girl in baggy hand-me-downs, And shoes from dollar store, May be the strongest soul you’ll ever meet.
The woman in the Prada suit, With blonde cascading curls May drown in misery and self defeat.
You never know what’s underneath, The clothing that they wear. Fabric does not show what’s in the heart.
A picture speaks 1000 words, But words will sometimes lie. And pictures can be easily torn apart.
Why are you wearing those boots to church?
Why are you wearing those things it’s eighty degrees outside?!
Why are you wearing that to the zoo your gonna be walking a lot.
My response
Because I like them
Because they are cool
Because I like boots
What I really want to say;
Because I’m dressed from my head down to my boots
Because everytime I put them on I focus on my stride
So one day when I wear military combat shoes I can do it perfectly
I love boots
I’d wear them all day
They make me feel more organized about myself
The only thing I take special care in cleaning
Realty;
They are black leather riding boots
They are S size
I wear medium
They have a scuff mark from Chico a horse I used to ride
Iv never gone back to horse back riding
(Writers note just realized it said clothing -_-)
You tell me I look beautiful That nothing on this earth can compare But there is no disguising the tone in your voice
You know how I despise it Yet you strangle me with it Till my eyes bulge
The frilly sleeves are cutting me Leaving braclets adorned with rubies Yet you ask whats wrong
And as tears of vinegar Run down your face you wonder "Oh why would my little princess leave me?"
Thats why
No matter how hard I try I'm still Wearing The dress
A/N: not my best thats for sure i just wanted to try editing a poem I had posted on my old account
You tell me I look beautiful That nothing on this earth can compare But I can see the sinister look in your eyes
You know how much I despise it Yet you shove it on me Like I’m your little doll
You ask me what’s wrong Even though you know I’m suffocating
You wonder ‘she was so young, why would she do this?’ That’s why No matter how hard I try
I’m still wearing the dress
Are you happy?
Like daisies bending in the summer breeze, Like a new moons glow on a quiet night, Like a warm nit sweater on the first day of winter.
How happy are you?
Happy like a baby panda rolling down a hill, Or happy like a bumble bee’s first taste of sweet honey.
Are you happy like a seal, diving through the ocean, Or are you happy like a fresh baked cookie on a sad afternoon?
Do you smile when you hear your name? Do you laugh when talking with your friends? Do you love the bright sunshine just as much as the glow of a freshly picked lime?
Or do you yearn to smile at the sight of a unicorn? Do you yearn to laugh like you’re dancing on a rainbow? Do you yearn to have a heart that loves and cherishes all living things?
Are you happy where you are Or are you missing something?
My clothing bawled up in corners around the room Still wearing the same thing I was the other day I can’t bring myself to do anything Motivation couldn’t come to soon I loved you I meant it You broke me Do relish in it? Always picking my shattered pieces off the ground Trying to keep them safe Till you bump me again And there they go Scattered all around Again… Again, I thought I meant something to you But I’m just “friend”
at my old school we had no uniform but there was a dress code
girls could not show midriffs or shoulders pants could not show your legs and skirts couldn’t rise above fingertip length
tank tops and cropped shirts jeans with rips and “too-short” skirts were forbidden
they were “distracting”
boys could not wear hats
that was it boys couldn’t wear hats they were forbidden
do you know the number of boys who showed up in the morning in tank tops? the exact item girls couldn’t wear
the boys would come to school absent of shirts and the teachers would let it pass by
one day i went to school in a tank top and a skirt it was 98 degrees outside i was hot i was sent home to change i was distracting the boys the same boys who walked in with no shirt at all
i was in third grade when that happened
i transferred to an all girls school after fifth it was more of the same i couldn’t wear my skirt above fingertip length i was distracting the only boy there was my history teacher who wouldn’t stop staring so i pulled my skirt down and wore a sweatshirt because i was scared of his staring
i was in seventh grade when that happened
i used to despise the dress code i still despise the dress code but now i understand the dress code (at least the girls part) it’s to protect us it’s unfair but it’s to protect us from creeps like my teacher i wish we didn’t need a dress code to be safe but that’s the way the world works
dress codes don’t just belong to schools they’re everywhere ever present in your mind always
They’re real, you know?
Those gnomes steal your souls.
I mean socks.
They steal your…
socks.
Keep the doors locked - it won’t matter.
Sock Gnomes will come in through the window - they’ll use a ladder.
Keep your socks upon your feet, friend.
Tie them tight while you’re asleep, friend.
Always dry them on low heat, friend.
Sock Gnomes are drawn to socks a’shrinkin’.
I once met one. He said, “My name’s Joe!”
I said, “Whoa whoa bro, are you a fucking garden gnome?”
He seemed offended, as he said, “I’m a Sock Gnome, bro, and I’m here to steal your stinky soles!”
“You’re outta luck, you gnome named Joe, I sold my soul a year ago!”
Joe rolled his eyes and grabbed my foot, he took a whiff and seemed off-put.
My eyes left sockets, As Joe the Gnome, Removed my socks, And stuffed his pockets.
So lock your home, and guard your socks, Sock Gnomes will come, and steal your soul.
I mean… socks.
