“Are you here?” Asked the girl. A cough. “I am.” Said the man. A lie. He was gone. Jumping over rocks. Running over train tracks. Catapulting off of cliffs. Down. Down. And back up again. He was digging in the dirt. He was playing with fire. He was flirting and building, hating and crying… He was everywhere, but there. Where he desperately needed to be. “Are you here?” Asked the girl. A plea. “I am not.” Said the man. A truth. Then he got up and walked away.

He comes to my door With his bag and his disdain Peddling cures to make me: Happier, easier, livelier In my home he sits Displaying the vials, the tablets Opening a tome to teach Me, like a school child, About what’s wrong with Me, and how to fix the sadness I take a tablet from his hand, Tremble in the worry, And place it in my mouth Where it dissolves Into … Happiness I stand and shake his hand Watching from the window A wide smile As he strides next door Doing the same for my neighbor As he did for me
What a man of miracles
The traveling medicine man this morning came to call So close I was to my demise a way to end it all He shared ancient wisdom of struggle pain and strife Challenging times are regular here through out my aging life I have seen beauty once and again I see but pain The sun shines bright this morning coming soon more rain If I am to rise above the sky’s deep sorrow its vibe so cold and gray Toxicity and anger I release aloud and pray He coaxed me from my gloom a smile upon his lips Rise he said no worry simply reroute your trip A feeling swells within me now gentle calm at peace The gift he left behind with me he said go forth and play Carry on dear child of stars he turned and walked away

In towns where whispers weave through air, And cobblestones tell tales of yore, There roams a man with silvered hair, With potions, herbs, and folklore galore.
His wagon creaks through dawn's soft glow, And down the cobblestones of the lands, Each vial and jar, a world to know, Behold the traveling medicine man.
He speaks in tongues of ancient roots, Of healing leaves and honeyed balm, His hands, they hold the magic touch, No need for a magic wand.
His eyes, a mirror of the skies, Reflect the hertz of every man. With every remedy he applies, Life's ailments flee on his command.
Yet, when the stars claim the night's embrace, And silence falls upon the land, He faces the mirror, a solemn face, The healer's heart he cannot mend.
For every laugh and grateful tear, He's traded pieces of his heart, A lonely path he treads in fear, That from himself, he drifts apart.
His hands that soothe the deepest ache, Are powerless to heal his own, In twilight's hush, he lies awake, The medicine man, forever alone.
So, spare a thought for this gentle soul, Whose life to others he did hand, For in the art of making whole, He lost himself, the medicine man.
