Dreary skies and pouring rain,
Fog rolls in an open plane.
An old worn bench sat all alone,
Next to a grave carved out from stone.
Dead flowers laid upon the ground,
The silence here is so profound.
Ivy crawls across her grave,
Name so beautifully engraved.
Despite this solemn scenery,
It just seems serene to me;
When I think of the two of us....
My hand felt the smoothest seat.
Felt like the fur of a small pup.
The spine in my back straighten itself.
Sitting comfortably in my white fluffy chair.
Breathing softly into the fresh air,
As my tense muscles relaxed into calmness.
Releasing all of the stress from before.
And therefore, I shall start all over again.
To experience, this welcoming relief....
It is September, yet Mother has insisted
on putting out Halloween decorations already.
Ceramic little houses with fairy lights
decorate the bookcase, and
Pumpkins of different materials
are scattered throughout the house.
The most annoying one being
in the center of the coffee table
where we eat dinner.
with an old jack-o-lantern scarecrow
above the dog crate.

I watch as the sky turns red
I watch as my brother fades into the flames.
I can’t take it.
I watch him burn
with no way to stop it.
I watch his eyes go blank.
I can’t tell if he’s really gone
I’m too far away
My vision is blocked by the crowd
Who stare in awe
At the boy
Who they believe is a witch.
My motherly side of me
Wants to be next to him.
I want to save him
I want him to be far from
