Pel gingerly stepped out of the space ship as his boss yelled at him. His boss didn’t seem to understand. Just because half of the man was built out of circuitry didn’t mean he could run indefinitely. Still his boss called him over to meet his new employer. Rui watched the cyborg approach. He was light on his feet. And didn’t even flinch as his boss called him over. He had to be used to high stake situations, but could he be part of the crew? “Sir?” Pel’s voice was quiet. His human eye had a bag under it. And his body shook. Rui turned to the crime boss. “This is the pilot you spoke of?” The man’s smile was greasy. “Best in the galaxy. Isn’t that right, Pel?” The cyborg nodded knowing this routine. His services were being sold again. And his debt was large enough that he’d stopped caring how much his boss passed him around. Rui lifted an eyebrow. The cyborg’s movements were odd, not as fluid as they had been. But she didn’t have time to question them as an explosion rocked the space ship port. The cause was obvious and she groaned. “Do you know anything about ship engines?” Rui asked. “Not enough to fix that. But I know someone you can hire cheap.”
Alatar saw them walk into the brothel. Of course he always knew when his friend was nearby. They’re circuitry came from the same source. But Pel always came alone. Why bring a female? Perhaps she was a customer? Pel caught the eye of the pleasure bot. And Alatar nodded to an empty back room. But the female didn’t look at him like the others. Nor did her demeanor change when the three were alone. Alatar gave a bow. “How may I serve you?” “Do you know how to fix space engines?” Rui noticed the bot’s hesitation. Alatar’s blue eyes glowed. “I can fix anything with the right equipment. But I will need permission from my mistress to do so.”
Niobe glanced at her glowing wrist band, her link to Alatar. What now of all times? Looking around she dove into an alley that led to an older part of the city. And ducked under what appeared to be an old altar. “What?” “I’ve been offered a job on a cargo ship as a mechanic. Free food and passage are payment.” “Passage?” Niobe smiled. “Of course you must agree in exchange for my passage as well.” “I will send you the coordinates.” Niobe stood as Alatar disconnected. She was so happy that she knelt to the altar, giving thanks to the god that had protected her. And with that she stole away to the space port. But she wasn’t alone. He tails were catching up.
Alatar knew he didn’t have much time to get the ship functioning. Not with the bounty on Niobe’s head. But he couldn’t help but smile as he put the engine back together. And with his speed it was quickly roaring to life.
Rui was sitting at the ship’s entrance when she felt it come to life. Something she hadn’t felt since she and her dad had crash landed here. And now she… Rui dodged a bullet as a woman came barreling in calling the bot’s name. Niobe hid behind the open doors glaring at the other woman. “Can’t you close these?” “They haven’t been closed in years.” Rui took ahold of the coms. “Alatar close the doors. Pel get ready for take off.”
Pel jolted from his nap. The pilot’s chair was far too comfortable. But the view from the window had adrenaline pumping into his veins.
A large skeleton wearing a clear green suit proceeded to tear through the assailants. Niobe couldn’t stop staring at the figure that had been featured on the altar. “He with you?” Rui asked. “I think so.” Niobe continued to stare even as the doors started to close and the thrusters came online. The protector saw his charge on the ship and ran. It had been far too long since he’d had someone to protect. And he wasn’t letting this opportunity pass him by. So he flung himself into the ship just as the doors screeched closed. Rui unsheathed her knives but Niobe stopped her. “He won’t hurt you as long as you don’t hurt me.” Rui glanced between the two and then shrugged. She’d been looking for a crew. Well now she’d found them.
The sun was in the sky Love was in the air Spirits were high And all was fair It was just him and her Messing around And as long as they were together With their feet on the ground Nothing would be wrong, Everything would be right As long as they held on As long as they clung tight Everything would be fine They would sit, hands glued Smile and laugh and dine on such fine food As long as they were together Nothing was going to stop them They would be loving forever For love is an everlasting inferno No matter how hard one tries They will never be capable Of stopping it
Squeaking, the janitor’s cart rounded the corner sloshing warm soapy water. Gus knocked on the boys’ bathroom door and pushed it open. “Give me a minute,” Principal Wesley called out from the sink area his voice shaking. Embarrassed Gus retreated and headed to the girls’ room. Principal Wesley cleared his throat and splashed cool water on his face. He told his dripping reflection, “ You can do this. It will be hard. But you can do this.” Principal Wesley looked for paper towels and saw only a high speed hand blower. “Well shit.” Exiting the girls’ lavatory, Chair Reynolds and Board Member Bell walked around the janitor. “It’s ridiculous. This was a kid’s prank not a Klan rally. They’re making us out to be monsters. This is—“ Reynolds said. Bell whisper-shouted, “Shush! You don’t want to be tomorrow’s soundbite.” She motioned her head towards a trio of flinty eyed mothers holding court by the auditorium doors. With tight smiles, they slipped into the already crowded auditorium. The air was charged. Groups of parents and teachers clumped. Principal Wesley looked panic stricken and damp. As the school board members headed single file to the stage the community members headed to their seats. From the main lobby, Gus watched the news crews in the parking lot. Their lights filled the lot like stars as the reporters waited hungrily for the school board meeting to end. Wearily, he pulled the mop from his cart turning his back to the outside.
The beams shone through the windows of the house, engulfing anybody inside. It was February 2007, in San Francisco, California. It was a cloudy, purple birthday. Soon, the mist that once rolled over the ceiling would become smoke.
Smoke that becomes toxic to anyone who happens to breathe it in, however the smoke was deadlier this time. It had come from a dragon. A dragon’s smoke can make anyone go unconscious due to it damaging oxygen particles.
The dragon invasion had begun that cloudy day. And over many hours, they wreaked havoc upon the city, burning buildings, humans and anything that stood in their way, even bridges.
The deadliest of these dragons is the purple dragon. Purple dragons have glowing purple eyes. These glowing eyes emit beams of purple fire down. If these purple beams strike anyone, they will become supernatural.
The dragons arrive every ten years. Their eyes looking in every door, crack and window. Beams flowing everywhere they can. Anyone can become supernatural. Even you.

No longer would they be the nerds, outcasts, and weirdos. Instead, when they walked in, they would not be a princess, they would be queens. The four girls dressed in their fanciest gowns as the walked to the prom. Their chins to the sky, unflinching certainty of what was about to happen in their eyes. They walked in, all 4 in blood red dresses. They no longer were the ones taken advantage of. They were the leaders, and no one else was ever going to bully them again. They were strong, and resolved. They regretted but the strived. And they were absolutely done with these people. They were killer queens. They dropped a match and walked away.
They were the prom queens,
naturally.
This is a story about bread. Yes, Bread. I know it sounds boring, but bare with me. Once upon a time, in a bread factory- no not ‘far far away’- was millions of loafs of bread being made and shipped out to different stores. And everything has a story, yes, even bread. Bread is made from dough. Dough is made from other ingredients. But, this bread was made whole, think of it as one happy family. Every loaf of bread is a happy family. And they get made, baked, and even shipped out together. But then, people buy the bread, and they get separated. Toasted separate. Eaten separate. Are separated to make sandwiches. These ‘happy families’ get separated. And eaten. They probably-if they were actually human and could think for themselves- would not want to get eaten, and/or separated. Because they love their little bread families.

Someone once said that you may need courage to live with fear by your side but you have to have honor to overcome it. For fear is nothing more than a obstacle that stands in front of progress.
People always start out living with fear always in their minds. Telling them what to do. When to run and when to stay and fight. I used to live in the face of fear because I accepted the fact that I was scared of everything. What people thought, what people did, who people are, and who I could trust. I lived with fear because I had no reason to fight it off when I agreed with it.
Then I found honor. You cannot honor yourself if you don’t learn to stop being afraid of who you’re meant to be. You have to accept that people are going to love you, and others are going to hate and want to hurt you. Learn from the people who point out your flaws and fix them, don’t cower away and try to hind them. Then and only then will you truly be able to overcome fear.
Three children raced down the alleyway soaking wet from the pouring rain. They were afraid of something you could see it in their faces. “We have to stop at some point Annie. We cant run forever!” A male’s voice echoed through the empty street. “My mother did so why cant I Sam. Give me one good reason to stop.” Her voice was strained and full of hurt. The third child looked around worriedly. They were being to loud. “Annie, Sam we need to be quiet people could here us.” The third person seemed to be the most reasonable the smartest of the three. “Oh hush Sasha were fine.” Even with Annie’s reassurance Sasha couldn’t shake off this uneasy feeling, boiling in the pit of her stomach. One block, two blocks, seven blocks past before someone let out a bloodcurdling scream. Annie and Sam gave each other worried looks. “SASHA!!” They both yelled at the exact same time. Turning their heads around fast to see where she had gone. A dark creature crept forward holding a limp body in its hand. The person’s auburn hair was hanging loosely around their shoulders. Their skinny pale frame outlined in the moonlight. Sasha, the person was Sasha. Annie and Sam looked at each other with terrified expressions. They had been found. “You grab Sasha I distract Boris you got it Sam.” Sam nodded his face pale with worry for his little sister. “Hey Boris you big ugly brute look here.” The monster Boris looked at Annie with a look of hatred that would have burned through a soul. At the exact same time Sam picked up Sasha who Boris had dropped. Her leg was swollen, She wouldn’t be able to walk. Annie was running farther and faster Boris’s dark figure looming over her. As Annie neared Sasha and Sam she pulled out her gun. Time froze as her finger pulled the trigger. A deafening sound filled the area. A ball of light shot out of the gun engulfing Boris in it. “Ahhh!!!” The children ran farther and farther into the night leaving Boris and his screams behind. “What were you thinking Annie!?!?! The school will be able to locate us now. They can track magic in case you forgot!” Sam’s face was red from anger and from running. He sat Sasha down on a rock that lay nearby. “Well I had to do something didn’t I!” Annie’s face was also red. Her body was clearer now that the sun had stated to rise. She had pale skin and long black hair that seemed to fall in waves down her back. Her ice blue eyes looked to old for her young age. they held to much pain and sadness for such a sweet girl. Sam was also easier to see. He had dark skin and curly hair piled on the top of his head. His eyes were also blue a light baby blue. The eyes were the only resemblance between him and his sister. “Let’s go somewhere else, people will start waking up soon. My mother built a safehouse about two mile away. Let’s go there.” Sam nodded and picked up Sasha with a soft grunt. The trio walked for almost one and a half hours, only held back by their fatigue and having to carry Sasha. They arrived at a small patch of trees with dying grass surrounding them. “Here it is we just have to open the door.” “The door there is no door. There’s nothing here Annie.” Sam gave a tired sigh while Annie just rolled her eyes. “of course you cant see anything. It’s hidden you idiot.” Sam blushed a shade of crimson realizing his mistake. Annie started looking for a small pannel hidden somewhere. “Aha!” Found it. With a satisfactory grunt Annie lifted the pannel. “What are you waiting for come on.” As the two of them climbed down they stayed silent. Finally Their feet hit the cool floor drawing breaths of relief from the two of them. “Wow this is perfect.” Said Sam “I know.” Replied Annie “I know.” Sam decided to find medical supplies. This was the last thing Annie had of her mother’s. After they settled down and Sasha’s leg had been treated the three of them sat down for dinner. They mostly ate in silence till the end when Sasha asked the question they all dreaded answering. “When can we go home and be safe.” Her voice quivered with sadness. “Oh Sasha. We’ll never be safe.”
