Fireworks

A year ago today

I was a child

Fireworks

Shell shock

BooM

Not war

But war inside

Right outside

The window

BOOM

The floor

sHoOk

Windows RAttLEd

It was pretty

jarRIng

Too much

Too little

To fill

The gaping

Hole

In my

Heart

A strange place

Strange feelings

Strange times

I never meant

To leave you

In the past

The year was gone

And so were you

Two

Thirty

One

Will forever

Be engraved

Imprinted

In my ...

Through The Eyes Of A Child

I start hearing this sound

Coming from the ground

Flickering light shoot up in the air

So fast and so loud

All of these colors in the sky

So beautiful and so amazing

The sky was dark and the world

Felt dark and scary too

But once I saw these colors in the sky

The world felt happy, bright and pretty

Like all the darkness was gone

The lights covered the sky so you could not see The stars

...

Magic

The sound is louder than gunshots,

But the lights are so beautiful.

The fire is dangerous, surely,

But look at the colors.

ā€˜Thereā€™s no such thing as magic,ā€™

Thatā€™s what they told me.

ā€˜Wake up,ā€™

Thatā€™s what they said.

ā€˜Stop dreaming.ā€™

But look; look!

Have they forgotten how to see?

There are lights in the sky,

Dazzling flowers,

Endless rainbows

Without any rain.

Am I the only one who sees it?

...

pretty fire

bang, bang, BANG

hands over ears

why is it so loud?

"Open your eyes, Darling"

mama takes my hands

wow...

so many rainbows in the sky!

but so loud...

my breathing shakes and i sniff my runny nose

"loud mama"

mama smiles with pretty teeth and covers my ears

the rainbows pop and glitter

"Those are fireworks, Sweetie."

fire works!

"f-fire?"

"Good fire"

"pretty fire"

Too Much

BOOM

CRACK

i sob

ā€œBaby, whats wrong?ā€

The bright colors

Too much noise

Too many people

ā€œNothingsā€

CRACK

BOOM

Red white and blue

Fill the sky

ā€œHelp meā€

My brain screams

But I canā€™t go anywhere

As I feel

As I cannot move

Stuck

In a loop

Of watching

BOOM

CRACK...

Firework

People often ask you what is your favorite childhood memory

That is really easy for me to answer

I was getting starburstā€™s from the hotel vending machine

My heart fluttering excitedly as I waited to for the candy to drop

BOOM!! CRACK!! BOOM!!

My eyes quickly went to the window next to me

I stood on my tippy toes so I could properly observe

My eyes growing wide with excitement

Staring out with ...

loud

my parents forced me

the bursts of light hurt my ears

where are my headphones?...

NOOOO

it was new yearā€™s eve

2014

the fireworks would be starting soon

i was so excited

i couldnā€™t even focus on

my mom

who was yelling at me

cause i

ate uncooked meat

ā€œit wasnt finished !! i was gonna put it in the soupā€

all i could see is

the big red lever

and not a sight of

a permit

i couldnt help myself

i ran over to the

big

red

lever

and pulled it towards me

ā€œNOOOOā€

my mom yelled

but it wa...

Fireā€¦works

Red and blue and yellow and green

With the loud cheers of Happy New Year

Children smile while being tucked into bed

Knowing there is nothing to fear

Once blossom like the flower,

Shapen like the moon

And soon it will be the mushroom

Red andā€¦ andā€¦ and grey

The cheers have died down

Left with smoke and fire and tears....

the crackling aftermath

a rocket rises

and suddenly

a dandelion bursts

and fills the sky

a cannon bursts

and we sit silent in the crackling

aftermath...
