It was finally here Christmas Day With tons of gifts Under the tree they’d lay
Although there were many I was most hopeful for one That my father would come home And celebrate with his son
He’d left us 5 years ago My sister, mother, and I Without any warning Not even a goodbye
But he sent us a letter Claiming when I turned thirteen He’d visit for Christmas And that wasn’t a scheme
I really did believe him And waited for that day I’d tell him about my life I had so much to say
And when it was time He drove through the woods Ready to greet us And bring us some goods
He was halfway there When he heard a pop His car slowed down And he was forced to stop
In the middle of nowhere His tire deflated He had no service So he just simply waited
The day went by fast While he sat near the street And was completely alone With nothing to eat
He realized he should walk Although he could barely see And try to find a path Maybe one that lead to me
He plowed through the snow His whole body aching Hoping to come home to warmth And sugar cookies baking
He wouldn’t make it in time No matter how hard he’d tried Our bedtime was soon And he was still outside
Lost in the fog Alone in the deep Bound by a promise That he couldn’t keep
I told you it was dangerous But you wouldn’t have it At first it went smooth But you’ll now have to commit.
Lost to the wind Never found again Freed by the bind Watching from the den
You venture on the path For a very long time And for what, A lousy old mine?
Lost in the fog Alone in the deep Bound by a promise That you couldn’t keep.
I love you, he promised To the girl with bright green eyes Alone in the forest Without a watchful eye
I’ll stay with you forever, dear Until the time has come For us to be together But not upon this earth
Dearest girl did smile then Lost in train of thought This boy, he did love her This boy had caught her heart
I love you, he promised To the girl with bright green eyes Back inside the village Sneaking out of sight
Days went by, the years went by With ever-changing scenes And still the boy did promise The girl was his whole heart
Promise me, my dear one The girl whispered in his ear You will always love me Even when I’m not here
The boy stared in wonder As green eyes faded to despair Her time had come far early To leave this lovely earth
Too young the dearest boy was left To love a single one Heart retched out of place Weeping where they met
Heartache, tears break Gone forever, without a sound Lost in the fog, alone in the deep Bound by a promise, that he couldn’t keep
it was born of beauty this most gentle affection almost at a painful pace i’d melt at his mere mention
he’d buy my coffee as whispers fill the air he’d lie next to me his consideration so rare
i forget all of history’s mistakes as i cross today’s date an end to constant heartbreaks and a silent prayer for peace
peace i am owed for his treacherous words love i have bestowed while he is far far away
lost in the fog alone in the deep bound by a promise that he couldn’t keep.
Through the mist He searches in vain For a glimmer of hope A release from the pain Looking for solace A path to redeem Yet all that’s found Is a shattered dream Haunted by echoes That refuse to grow old A vow made in haste A chain on his soul The oath he made Now frayed and torn A burden of regret Sad and forlorn Through the shadows Of his lonely mind Only painful cries Of a vow unkind Lost in the fog Alone in the deep Bound by a promise That he couldn’t keep
In the silence of the night, with a heart so steep, Lay a man with secrets that he couldn't help but keep. His love for his wife, pure and true, Yet shadows of desire, in his mind they grew.
He walked a tightrope, in darkness so deep, Juggling true love, with the lust that did creep, A whisper of a touch, a fleeting glance, In the dangerous dance, he took his chance.
His wife, with eyes like stars shining bright, She was his world, his reason to fight. But demons within, they clawed and they leapt, Dragging him down, into the depths.
He vowed to be better, his promises seeped, Into the night, where the cold winds swept. But the morning light, it revealed the heap, Of broken dreams, where she silently wept.
He tried to heal her wounds, but the cuts were too deep. She couldn’t overcome the pain, the climb was just too steep. Regret filled his chest, with every secret he reaped, Knowing he'd been the cause of the tears she did weep.
Lost in the fog, alone in the deep, Bound by a promise, that he couldn't keep.
Lying on the bed, Eyes closed in peace A low growl grows He blinks tired eyes open, Only to see nothings there
He lays back down The growling comes again He sits up again
Still, nothings there Annoyed, he lays down again No more sound hits his ears Until morning
When the rooster crows, A whisper comes from the other side of the door
'Keep my secret. I killed sister.'
He sits up and stares at the door Like it's a giant bear
Now, lost in the fog Alone in the deep Bound by a promise That he couldn't keep, He stumbled out of bed And straight for breakfast
I was known for my secrets Ones I will always keep The kind that will scare you Deprive you of sleep
I never told anyone Not a single word For fear they will share All they have heard
I never trusted anyone No one but him I decided to tell him my secrets No matter how grim
He promised to keep them Swore on his soul My secrets were safe with him It was his only goal
I made a mistake By giving him my trust He lied to me And i’ll leave him to rust
So I stand over his body Watching the blood seep Taking note of his family As they begin to weep
He swore on his soul Which no one could save And I watch as he is lowered Down into his grave
Lost in the fog Alone in the deep Bound by a promise That he couldnt keep
My tale begins here, As all good tales do, With promises dear, And broken ones, too. Love stronger than death, Yet too weak for life, Choices made in a breath, With the gleam of a knife. The queen ruled alone, In a land by the sea. A world of her own, A soul brave, wild, and free.
She sang to the sea,
And danced with the sun,
A true sovereign, she,
Who would bow to none.
In her hands were the powers,
Of wind and wave and light, And the lesser man cowers,
Before one so bright.
He washed to her shore,
By storm or luck or fate,
His hulls battered by war,
His heart by hate.
He had seen too much gale,
To believe in fair wind.
He seemed meant to fail,
His journey to end.
Wrecked and despairing,
He fell hard on the beach.
Beyond point of caring,
If hope were in reach.
The queen, coming down,
To sing to the sea,
Caught the hem of her gown,
And wondered what it could be.
Looking down on the man,
Or was he a beast?
"I'll do what I can,
Turn him over at least."
When eye met eye,
In a sudden burst of light,
Heart met heart,
As they say, at first sight.
You know of this thing,
You know I say what is true,
One look, one word, one arrow-sting,
Perhaps it's happened to you.
They both knew this was love,
Though not a word was spoken.
Though one was fallen, one above,
One was whole, one broken.
Our queen, she has the power to heal,
The wounds of beasts and men.
But, for all her power, she cannot feel,
The scars that live within.
Day by day, he rose, grew strong,
And stronger their love grew.
And day by day he sang the song,
"My life I give to you."
She knows nothing of the words men say,
Having lived so long alone.
And so she falls with each new day,
Ever further off her throne.
She follows him with words so sweet,
We weep to see her so.
For we know the shape of wandering feet,
And wandering he will go. There are things you do not tell a queen,
Even one so strange as she,
You do not tell her that you've seen,
Him looking out to sea.
She will not hear that he still longs,
For home's ethereal shores.
And in his sleep, in murmured songs,
A name that is not hers.
They lived like this just for a year,
One turning of the world.
She did her best to keep him here,
But still his sails unfurled.
She came down one morning bright,
To sing her love awake,
Only to find, by weak dawn light,
What he'd chosen to forsake.
She'll not believe, she climbs to look,
And there, but far away,
A white sail turning, her hands, they shook,
She has nothing left to say.
We said all we could, but one disdained,
Is no longer able to hear.
We told her that love cannot be restrained,
What great fortune to have had a whole year!
She walks with terrible, purposeful stride,
To the beach, the undisturbed sands,
And with the fury of desperate pride,
Takes the powers into her hands.
The powers of wind, of wave, and light,
Can be used for good or ill,
With a slash at her palm, a knife's quick bite,
She binds them to do as she will.
And he, feeling the change in the sea,
Knows that his answer has come.
To have left one truthful and poud as she,
For the dream of a faraway home.
Lost in the fog,
Alone in the deep,
Bound by a promise,
That he couldn't keep.
